As per report a massive comet has been discovered by a team of researchers during the Dark Energy Project. And it is named as C/2014 UN271(Bernardinelli-Bernstein) . It is estimated that the diameter range of this comet is between 100 to 200 km.

Comet C/2014 UN271(Bernardinelli-Bernstein) will approach the sun at a distance slightly greater than that of Saturn in the year of 2031 , By the way we don’t have to bother about it , Because after the approach it will return to the outer side of the Solar System.

The Dark Energy Project was for the study of Dark Energy but, while in search of Dark Energy , Astronomer Pedro Bernardinelli Y Gary Bernstein from the University of Pennsylvania , USA found this giant comet after the deep analysis of data collected from Dark energy Survey.

The study of this project took place with the help of Víctor M. Blanco Telescope of the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile.

As I have mentioned above Comet C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein) have a diameter range between 100 and 200 kilometers and the name “Comet C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein)” is given by The Little Planet CenterThe National Astronomical Union.

The Little Planet CenterThe National Astronomical Union is a organisation which is dedicated for naming the Comet and other objects from outer space.

After the Dark Energy Survey (DES) project astronomers found that the size of the Comet was not usual.
That means its diameter indicates the enormous size of the Comet.

Since the diameter of C/2014 UN271(Bernardinelli-Bernstein) is between 100 and 200 So, it is estimated that the size of comet is approximately ten times the Usual Comets.

Now the question is how the size of the Comet is calculated ? Well, the size of a comet depends on its albedo and the amount of Sunlight it reflects.

During the Six years period of Dark Energy Survey Project ( Between 2013 and 2019 ) astronomers have detected over 300 million galaxies in 5,000 square degrees of the night sky.

And also many Comets and Trans-Neptune objects (TNO) that has passed through the 5,000 square area has been detected.

( Trans-Neptune object (TNO) : A Trans-Neptune object is any minor planet or dwarf planet in our solar system that orbits the sun at a distance beyond the Neptune.)

“Despite observations made a few years ago, the object was recently identified when a reanalysis of the DES data, by algorithm which links unrelated or isolated observations to the use of statistical procedures.” Said astronomer Carlos de la Fuente Marcos.

After the discovery was announced- he continues ” two things were clear regarding that Comet :

1) That the object was moving in very eccentric orbit .
2) And the second that the size can be similar to that of centaurus the greatest acquaintances, like chiron and Cariclo”.
